Surrey Debt: Sign our petition

Councils across Surrey have debts of £6 billion as a result of poorfinancial choices made by former andcurrent Tory council leaderships. Conservative-controlled Surrey CountyCouncil has over £2bn of debt. Following risky property speculation by former Conservative administrations in Wokingand Spelthorne those two councils alone are over £2bn in debt also. Under government plans to reshape the way councils in our area work, Surrey is going to be split into two or three new unitary authorities where all services are run by a single council - Elmbridge Council will be abolished. Currently it is unclear how this debt will be paid for and whether local residents will be required to foot the bill. We believe that Elmbridge resident's shouldn't have to foot the bill for the Tory debts. Add your name to our petition to tell the Government not to pass the buck of Tory debts to Elmbridge residents.
