Monica wins in Esher & Walton - Thank You!

Monica at the Count on July 4th

It is the privilege of my life to have been elected as the Member of Parliament for Esher and Walton. I am deeply honoured and humbled that the people of our fantastic part of the world have put their faith in me.

This is an historic moment for Esher and Walton - it is the first time a non Conservative has been elected to the seat for over 150 years.

And I am very proud to be the first female MP for Esher and Walton.

And it is an historic moment for the Liberal Democrats too.  A record number of LibDems have been elected to parliament - 72 - the highest number for a century.  And voters have swept the Conservatives out of Surrey and invited the Liberal Democrats in - to deliver change. From Esher and Walton to Epsom and Ewell, Woking, Surrey Heath, Dorking and Horley, and Guildford - we have delivered hard working local MPs who will work tirelessly for their constituents.

Today is a Fresh Start for Esher and Walton

With 53% of the vote and a turn out of 73% this is a clear message that the voters of Esher and Walton wanted a Liberal Democrat MP.  The 12,000 majority we achieved on Friday shows that people have put their trust in us to deliver.

I will not let them down.

I want to thank everyone who played a part in this campaign.  This is your success.

You offered change and voters listened. You worked your socks off, for four years, knocking on doors, delivering leaflets offering change  - offering an alternative to the dreadful Conservative Government who have let us all down. This is your victory.

And it is a victory for hope.

I will work tirelessly for Esher and Walton to make life easier for our residents, and contribute to fixing our great country.

I promise to be a local champion for all people in this constituency - no matter how they voted.

Thank you for electing me to serve you. I can't wait to get stuck in.

Kind regards
Monica
