A further planning application for the development of the Weylands Treatment Works has recently been submitted to Elmbridge Borough Council, despite previous applications being refused!
The plan is for a waste management and recycling facility, along with up to 40 affordable homes, on land that is known to be contaminated and partly green belt land. Despite the addition of some minor changes to accommodate feedback at the previous planning rejection, this development will have a catastrophic impact on residents of Walton South, Hersham and the surrounding areas.
The proposed plans will create an increase in traffic. This will have a knock-on effect with the queues at the Hersham railway bridge and there will be an impact on noise and vibrations for residents of Rydens Road. The development also includes the proposal to close the entrance to Meadowside in order to put a pedestrian refuge in the middle of Rydens Road: this proposal was rejected by many residents several years ago for a number of reasons, not least the very idea of waiting to cross on an island in the middle of the road with HGVs trundling passed at speed.
Walton South Lib Dem Councillor, Kirsty Hewens, is strongly opposing this application. We would urge residents to submit your comments on this development. For further information on the proposal and to have your say please visit the Council’s planning page here.
